HEALTH ISSUES: The next time you are at a grocery store, look on the floor behind the register. There you will see a “pad” that the Union Cashier stands on. Those pads are designed to help prevent injury to feet, ankles, knees, hips, backs, shoulders and necks! There is an entire industry that studies and deals with ergonomics to help prevent working related injuries to workers. How many of you have had surgeries or have pain in your joints in the areas we just mentioned? With the use of the floor pads, many of those injuries could be alleviated and/or prevented. With the use of those floor pads any current problems could be minimized. The floor pads have repeatedly been requested and every time denied to us! Why? They are relatively inexpensive. If they where truly concerned about us as employees, we would have everything available to us to improve our working conditions.
How about Second-Hand-Smoke? How many of you enjoy working at a table where there is smoke present? Even a regular smoker does not like being buried in smoke on a table. Smoking is now banned in all workplaces in the State of Nevada (except casinos). Is our health and lives worth less than that of any other employee in the State? Why is smoking by players less than three feet in front of our face still allowed? Why does our employer STILL provide FREE tobacco products to the customers ONLY while they are playing at a table game where there is a live employee?
With a Union we can force them to care. We can force them to provide a “safe and healthy work environment” as required by OSHA of ALL employers in the United States.
We as Dealers face customers in very close proximity throughout our entire shift. These customers have planned their trip to Las Vegas up to a year in advance. They bought their tickets and paid for their rooms far in advance. If they become ill at the same time their trip to Las Vegas was planned, they come anyway! And they sit within three-feet in front of our face with their face facing ours. They sneeze, cough and breathe in our face for hours on end. We are continually exposed! Unlike any other worker at Caesars Palace, we have to be in position in front of ill customers for hours on end, with no escape. We must maintain a "friendly demeanor" at all times, no matter how many times the customer gags in our faces. Because of this close proximity to our customers, we as Dealers are at a much greater risk of becoming ill from our customers, yet this is not taken into consideration with the "Attendance Policy". We get no more consideration than the person working behind a desk in a smoke-free environment in the Human Resources office. The very person who is going to suspend us if we accumulate to many points for being sick!
When is the last time the chips were cleaned? A lab test on chips would show the amount of germs to be off the charts! We have to make contact with those chips thousands of times each day!
