Talk to Wynn Dealers

This page is part of the Caesars Palace Dealers "Archives". These are the original pages used to organize the Dealers of Caesars Palace.

This is one of the most important pages on this website!

Please take the time to read everything.

To see the Business Cards of the TWU International Organizers who are working with Caesars Palace and The Wynn, Click on their names HERE:

Joe Carbon or Steve Roberts

Even if you don't agree with everything here, there may be some things you do agree with.

If you agree with one thing, than please consider what we are trying to accomplish here.

THANK YOU ALL!

How many times have you been sitting in a group on break at work discussing the current issues with your co-workers and the conversation goes like this:

"What can we do about it? There's nothing we can do" and someone else says "Sure there is, we can organize" and the next response is "That'll never happen. You can't get two dealers to agree on anything"

Common conversation? Very common.

Well, the last response is wrong, the Dealers at that table DID agree on something ...

they all agreed that something must be done

The main reason why Dealers have never organized is because they all sit around and say "That'll never happen...". What dealers must say is "Yes, it can happen and is going to happen now!"

When your children or grandchildren ask you, "What have you done to fix things? What have you done to make your impact on the world?"

Wouldn't it be great if you could give them a response better than "There's nothing we can do to change the world, it's controlled by all of the CEO's"

Wouldn't you like to

"leave a legacy"

that your children can be proud of, one that you can be proud of?

Wouldn't it be great if you can say to them "I was one who made a difference for all of the casino dealers in the world"?

It's true, there isn't much we can do as individuals to leave our imprint behind for future generations. But if we all stand together as one, and let the leaders of our business know that we are a force to be reckoned with and that we will be respected and acknowledged for the work we do,

we will become "leaders" in the business!

What the Dealers at Caesars Palace do affects every Dealer in the Nation.

We are the job which every other Dealer compares themselves to.

Caesars Palace Dealers have been at the top of the industry for OVER FORTY YEARS!

We have proven not to be a "flash in the pan".

We were the leaders of our industry! What Dealer in this country hasn't wanted to be a Dealer at Caesars Palace?

Let's do what Caesars Palace was noted for in the past,

Let's show the industry the way!

WE NEED A UNION NOW!

This website has many links and information about the Labor Laws and will show you that

 You have no need to fear for your job during an organizing drive!

It is our legal rights to organize!

It is the "American Way"!

They have attorneys and so do the Unions. Our rights are protected and enforced!

No, we do not have ONE ISSUE that bonds us tightly together like at The Wynn. At least not yet!

But we have a multitude of smaller, yet equally important Issues that all add up to something just as big, if not bigger than having our tokes stolen to be given to our supervisors.

With the advent of a new owner on their way, our path may become a rocky one if we don't do something about it now.

If we take the "sit back and wait to see what happens" approach with all of the casino Dealers who are currently organizing, we will lose precious benefits!

Once an organizing effort begins,

everything stays the same and management can change NOTHING!

Another words, if we wait to begin a "drive" until after they decide to take a portion of our tips and give it to the floor, we have to then accept that and hopefully bargain that out of a contract.

If they provide us with a terrible health insurance plan or take away our 401K before we officially start a Union drive, again we must accept that and hopefully bargain for something better.

HOWEVER, if they have NOT given our tips to the floor

or have not taken away our 401K,

and we begin a Union drive before they do,

they can not all of a sudden do it!

We would have to negotiate a contract that allows them to give the floor our tips, and I don't think we would ever do that!

We must negotiate away our 401K, which I don't think we would unless we are getting something more valuable to us.

We have already lost so many things in the past, let's save what we have and build from here!

We MUST start to organize NOW

before we lose our tips,

health insurance,

401K

 and other valuable benefits!

We have had much better benefits in the past, but have lost them because they have taken them away. Management has given us those benefits as well as the ones which still remain. They can also take them away, as they have been slowly doing. They are not obligated to give us anything! We need to salvage what we have and work up from here!

[Under Construction]There is a large group of Caesars Palace Dealers who are currently engaged with meetings with an International Union. Soon "The Drive" will start and Union Cards will be passed out amongst the dealers. Signing these cards does not vote the union in, but shows the NLRB that we have a majority of the workforce who wants to join a Union. The process is as follows:

  1. Union cards are passed out to all of the Dealers by the in-house organizers;

  2. OR, you may PRINT OUT AN AUTHORIZATION CARD from this website;

  3.  Dealers sign the cards and either return them to the in-house organizers or mail the cards in to Las Vegas Local 721 (all information is kept strictly confidential and management will NEVER KNOW who has or has not signed cards);

  4. Once a majority of the workforce has signed cards, the Union then declares to Caesars Palace that their dealers are requesting representation and petitions the NLRB for a "Secret Ballot" (nobody will ever know how you voted!) and "The Drive" becomes "official";

  5. When the vote has been won and proven to the NLRB that we indeed, as a majority, want to have a Union, we will be recognized as a Union workforce;

  6. Shop Stewards are then voted into position on each shift by the dealers;

  7. The "Negotiating Committee" is then elected by the Dealers (will be actual Caesars Palace Dealers who negotiate the Contract, NOT THE TWU, they only "assist" us);

  8. The International Union then trains the elected Committee on the art of negotiation and assists in the negotiation process;

  9. A Contract is negotiated and when once approved by the workforce (rank and file) is signed by Caesars Palace Representatives and our Union Representatives;

  10. We now work under a "Collective Bargaining Agreement" and as long as we as individuals follow the contract your job, insurance, tips, pay and retirement are now Secure!

Once we start organizing, Caesars Palace will hire "Union Busters" to come in and spread viscous lies to try to persuade the dealers not to vote for a Union.

CP will spend MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to try to stop us from organizing!

Money that they refused to pay to us or the floor in the past and would not have spent in the future, but are willing to give to some attorney and his group to try to hold us down so they will not have to give us any more in the future and can continue to take away from us.

The money they spend on union busting would have NEVER trickled down to us if we hadn't organized!

It hadn't made it to us up to this point, why would it in the future?

So, don't believe the first lie they will try to spread amongst us "The money we are spending on this issue could have went to the workers". That's nothing but pure BS!

If anything, that's money taken away from Mr. Loveman's INSANE BONUSES (additionally Mr. Loveman's "Deal bonus" and "Severance Pay")!

He has a contract, why shouldn't you?!

CP will also start scheduling "Mandatory Meetings" as a form of harassment and to try to tell us all how good they are to us and that we don't need a union to tell us what to do (but ignore the fact we are required to come to a meeting or get points/suspended/fired for them to tell us what to do).

They may do things like move the sign-in sheets to a new location every day or other little annoying things.

Once they start these tactics, we can see their "true colors" and how they like to F... with us.

Many of them will take GREAT JOY in harassing us now!

But, once we vote a Union in and get a contract, that will all stop!

FOREVER!

Las Vegas Dealers have had problems organizing in the past years for several reasons:

  1. Culinary ... at one time the Culinary was willing to add the dealers to their ranks, however we were used by them as a "bargaining tool" and when they achieved their goals with a new contract, they dropped the Dealers.

  2. Teamsters ... Same situation as Culinary, got a contract and dropped us.

Okay, so what we need is a union that has no other current contracts, aside from dealers, with the hotel/casinos so we will not be used as a "bargaining tool" ever again.

There have been two large international unions that have been willing to assist the Dealers throughout the country and take them into their ranks:

  1. UAW (United Auto Workers) ... The UAW have represented the Dealers in Detroit from day one there. The Detroit work force was basically handed to them on a silver platter when Labor in Michigan made it clear the only way casinos would be built in their State was if all the workers were allowed to organize. Just within the last year the UAW has helped organize several casinos in New Jersey (including our sister properties Caesars and Harrah's in Atlantic City). When "The Wynn Dealers" approached the UAW for representation after they lost their tips to the floor, the UAW declined "at the present time". We believe they declined because they were very busy in New Jersey at the time and didn't want to stretch themselves out to far.

  2. TWU (Transport Workers Union) ... The TWU was asked by "The Wynn Dealers" to help them organize, and they stepped up to the plate and said YES! The vote at "The Wynn" was a landslide! You may say to yourselves "They know nothing about Dealers, how can they represent us?" Well, you are right, they know very little about Dealers, but the beauty of it is, they don't have to! TWU Locals are "Autonomous"! Each local negotiates their own contracts! The Dealers themselves do the negotiating with assistance from TWU and their attorneys! They do NOT tell us what to put into our contracts, the Dealers themselves do!

Because TWU has helped "The Wynn Dealers" achieve a successful vote for the Union, no other Union in the country will now come to Las Vegas in an effort to organize Dealers.

That's not a bad thing, the TWU is a great Union and has been in existence for something like 70 years!

Their ranks have stayed stable or increased over the past decades (unlike some Unions who have lost members).

They have nothing to do with our retirement funds (We keep our 401K if that is what we want), so there is no worry about the Union Officials making bad investments with our retirement and us losing it as a result.

There is now a new Dealers Union Local in Las Vegas!

It is Local 721, Las Vegas Dealers Union!

Established and founded by TWU and "The Wynn Dealers". This is the local we will belong to.

The Local will have officers who are voted in by the "rank and file" of Local 721.

Yes, these officers will be compensated financially (amount to be voted on by the Local Members), but it will be their full-time jobs. They will be well deserved of their compensation.
