WE
HAVE A DATE!
History is being made, and
we are all part of it!
For the first time in the
history of Caesars Palace the Dealers gathered enough Union Authorization Cards
to petition the NLRB on November 5, 2007 for a Vote for Union Representation!
The TWU, on behalf of the
Dealers of Caesars Palace, the NLRB and Caesars Palace has agreed on a place,
time and location for the Dealers to vote YES for a Union!
DATE:
Saturday, December 22, 2007
PLACE:
Training Room (next to Cleo's)
TIME:
9:30am - 2:30pm AND 6:30pm - 11:30pm
ELIGIBILITY:
All Full-Time and Regular Part-Time Table Game Dealers who were employed by
Caesars Palace on November 15, 2007. (any
Dealer hired AFTER 11/15/07 is NOT eligible to vote)
EXCLUDED:
All clerical employees, professional employees, managerial employees,
supervisors, Poker Dealers, Dual-rates, Floor Supervisors and Guards as defined
in the National Labor Relations Act.

We would like to make a few
comments on several things in regards to the Date/Place/Time of the Vote and
also about who has been included and excluded.
First of all, we want EVERY
employee at Caesars Palace to be a Union member. But because of the different
jobs done by the different classes of workers, as well as the different
"issues" each of those classes have, we felt it best to have just the
table games Dealers included in the vote.
However, we will assist in
any way we can, any other group of employees who would like to organize. That
includes the Poker Dealers, Floor Supervisors, Pit Clerks, Cashiers, Slot Ambassadors,
Dual-rates, Keno Writers, Race and Sports Book writers and any other employee
seeking Union representation.
Next, about the date and
times of the Vote. We proposed to have the election on earlier dates. We
felt that because the NFR being in town it would have provided more Dealers the
opportunity to vote while at work, as we are assuming most everyone will be
scheduled to work on those dates. We also submitted the times of 2:30am-5:30am
and 10:30am-1:30pm and 6:30pm-9:30pm.
However, Caesars Palace
INSISTED on the date of December 22, 2007 (the weekend before Christmas) when we
will be running skeleton crews (we assume) and many may be on extra days off or
on vacation. Also, evidently someone did not want to be "bothered" at
2:30am-5:30am, so the times were negotiated.
If the Union did not agree to
12/22/07, then they would have had to enter into a "hearing" to present
evidence/cause for the date. By doing this, it would have delayed the election
day and we would more than likely have ended up not voting until sometime in January. So, as not
to delay the vote, the Union agreed to the 22nd. We know everyone wanted to vote
YESTERDAY, but CP is trying to delay things as much as they can for whatever
their reasoning. Wait we know why! Because they want to give us the best
CHRISTMAS GIFT
from Caesars Palace,
A UNION!
Finally, placing your Vote
is NOT MANDATORY! However, CP must make the vote available to EVERYONE eligible.
So, come the 22nd, they MUST provide extra Dealers to give "pushes"
(on CP time) to those who would like to go cast their ballot for the Union.
We suggest that everyone try
to come to work early on election day (especially those on Swing, because there
will be no time after work allotted, as we requested but were denied) to cast your ballot for the
Union before work. If you can not make it in early to vote yes for the Union,
then CP will provide you with an extra "push" so you can go place your
yes ballot in.
Also know, the ballots will
be COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL and NOBODY (not even the NLRB) will know how you
voted. There will also be "poll watchers" at the polls to ensure
nobody is unfairly influenced in the area of the polls and to also ensure that
everyone who is casting a ballot is an eligible voter. We know all of the "poll
watchers" will be comprised of Dealers. The Union will have the opportunity
to choose poll watchers of their choosing, as will management. All "poll
watchers" must be Dealers, even those chosen by management. The
NLRB will also have "Field Agents" present overseeing the entire
process. There will be no one from management present at the polls. Any/all
supervisors/management must stay a certain distance from the polls (the Law is
something like fifty feet, but we are not certain of the exact distance) and can
not be inside the room where the polls are located. There can also be no cameras
within the polling area. If there are cameras inside of the room (because of
previous installations prior to our election and they are the standard equipment
in the area), they must be covered up and disabled.
If you are off work by
chance on December 22 and you want to vote "YES" for the Union, PLEASE
make a special trip to come in to vote! You do NOT have to be scheduled to work
to be eligible to vote. This will be the single most important "YES"
vote you have ever cast in your life. Your future is riding on it! We apologize
for any inconvenience. Think of it like this, you will be coming in to vote
"YES" for a Christmas present for yourself and your family.
Remember, EVERY SINGLE VOTE
will count, and we need every "YES" vote we can get!
One last thing. Please
remember, when the Union is voted in by the Dealers of Caesars Palace, nobody
will be required to join the Union, nor will the members of the Union be
required to pay any Union dues. So please, talk to your friends. If your friends
want to be organized and maybe you do not, you do not have to join the Union.
However, if you vote no for the Union, you will be depriving your friends of
something that you do not have to do, nor will it cost you anything when it is
voted in. Plus, you will ALWAYS have the "option" to join the Union at
a later date when you see the benefits it has to offer. Without the Union, there
are no "options" for any of us. Jan Jones, VP of Harrah's
Governmental Affairs, has already indicated what lies in our future! TOKE
REDISTRIBUTION!
Do it for your friends who want it and make friends for life.
