Here is the latest update on your contract negotiations. If you look closely,
there is a bigger picture being painted here. You’ll realize, if you didn’t
already know, that Wynn Las Vegas does not want you to have union
representation. We have spent hour upon hour trying to make our case for
progressive discipline and just cause. These things are pivotal to your job
security and are the backbone of what it means to be in a union.
Why does the company not want you to have a union? Here are a couple of
major reasons:
1. It is expensive. They have to pay lawyers to negotiate. They now
have to
defend themselves when they commit unfair labor practices. They now
have the union and the NLRB watching what they are doing. Also, it costs
the company more when the union is asking for improvements to our
wages, benefits, and working conditions.
2. The company does not want someone else trying to protect your job.
They want to be able to fire you for any reason they see fit. However, the
union does not want its members to be disciplined when they do not
deserve it.
3. The company cannot make some of the further changes they would like to
make. What changes you ask? We can only speculate, but the last major
change was taking our tokes.
We want you to know that the TWU and your negotiating committee are here
for you for as long as it takes. If you have any questions for us, please
ask.
We will address your concerns or straighten out any rumors you may have
heard as soon as we can.
