The TWU International in
conjunction with the Local 721 has launched a new campaign to raise the public's
awareness on how Dealers actually make their income.
As Dealers, we know that
MANY customers think the Dealers are paid great salaries and are surprised to
find out how little the casinos actually do pay their Dealers. Because of the
publics lack of knowledge, the TWU is going to run an ad campaign to let the
world know how Dealers actually do make their income.
How many times have you had
a winner on your table and they forgot about you? Many. It is probably not that
they didn't really forget, but rather they think the casino is paying you a
great wage. The whole time the customer has been playing on your table and you
have been entertaining them with your skills and conversation, yet they forget
about you when it comes to tipping.
How many times have you
witnessed a cocktail waitress come around once an hour and take an order? Yet
the customer was wanting a drink, and actually requesting the waitress long
before they ever arrived. As a Dealer and good employee, you did all you could
to try to get the waitress to come over. Then, when they finally do and take the
customer's order, and then returns in what seems like an eternity, the customer
is quick to tip the waitress. We are not saying the waitress doesn't deserve the
tip, but there is something wrong with this picture.
Here we are, as Dealers,
being overly friendly, sucking up the customer's smoke or whatever, and then are
forgotten about when they win. We may even have helped the table out by making
sure everyone is playing to their fulest advantage.
