NOBODY EVER WANTS TO
STRIKE!
Management may say if you join a Union you may have to "strike" and that will cost you money because of the lost
income while you are not working.
Management may say you will have to eventually
"strike" no matter what.
So, if we must some day have to strike, that only means one
thing, that management is NOT living up to their Agreement!
Strikes are very rare. Yes, they do happen, but
nobody ever wants a strike and the Unions will do everything possible to prevent
them.
Strikes are not "called" by the Union,
but rather the workers. It is the actual workers who VOTE for a strike or not.
Only if the majority of the workers vote for a strike will the Union ever
support one.
If a strike ever occurred, think about it, how long would
they keep their casino shut down? A few hours maybe?
Many will say, "Dealers can be replaced at some of
the top casinos instantly". Really? First of all, Federal Law only
allows for the replacement of striking workers if it is an "economic
strike". Next, how many Dealers at a "top casino" do you know who
has never had to go though a mile of red tape to get hired? No drug tests? No
background checks? No credit report? No sheriff's card? No audition? In
addition, where would they get the Dealers from? Other casinos? What would those
"other casinos" do then, have to work short handed and be forced to
bear the financial strain until they could find replacements? What about a
"working conditions strike" and when it was settled? All of the
replacement Dealers would then be without a job when the originals workers are
allowed to return to their jobs by Federal Law. What Dealer would quit their
job, with no "notice" given, for a few days work at another casino?
This is one of the real main reasons why Caesars Palace never
wants us to join a Union, because we would be too strong for them.
If all the Dealers were to join a union, who would they use to
replace Union members who have went on strike? Members like the Culinary? We are
their "backup plan" in case another Union ever does strike.
If the Dealers were ever to call a strike, who would be able to
come in and replace us? Can a porter deal?
If every Dealer in Las Vegas is
eventually in the Union other Dealers will not be available to replace us
either!
The casino is their bread-and-butter. If the casino shuts down,
they are in real trouble. THAT is why they do not want us organizing.
Management will do whatever it takes to prevent a Dealer's
strike. It would cost them their business if we ever did.
We would be the strongest work force in the industry!
We would NEVER have to strike! But, if we ever did, it would
last no more than a few hours before they would come to an agreement. That is how
strong we can be!
Also, to aid in the Union's strength, what if all organized
Dealers' contracts ended within the same time period?
There are other ways to get problems settled as well,
without a "strike". Strikes are NOT the only option to settle
disputes. What if EVERY Dealer (or the vast majority) called in "sick"
one or two days? They can't fire the Dealers for calling in "sick".
What if every Dealer has FMLA and has to use it on the same day? There are
"options".
